Advising

Advisors in the College of Public Health & Health Professions (PHHP) are able to assist students via email, Zoom, and in-person appointments. Advisors (Rob Doyle and Andrea Smith) are generally available for appointments Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In person appointments are conducted within the Student Services Office within the HPNP building (ground floor, room: G205). Our address is:1225 Center Drive Gainesville, FL 32610.

For students recently admitted into the upper division portion of the program, first refer to instructions sent in your decision email (sent Friday, March 8) for instructions and aid.

CURRENT JUNIOR AND SENIOR PHHP majors: All students currently completing the upper division portion of their programs should contact their department staff or program director for advising assistance. Health Science majors may contact Dr. Pomeranz or Kendra Hamilton; Public Health majors may contact Dr. Dixon, Tyler Brown, or Meredith Nappy; Communication Sciences and Disorders majors may contact Dr. Adams-Mitchell or Brenda McDonnell.

For students considering a change of major to one within PHHP, please email the advising team for assistance: advising@phhp.ufl.edu.

Email

Email is encouraged when you are unavailable to schedule an advising appointment, considering a major change to PHHP, only have one or two quick questions, or wish to share documents (forms, semester plans, etc.) with an advisor. Emails are monitored by multiple staff members and are typically responded to within one business day. To connect with an advisor via email, please send inquiries to advising@phhp.ufl.edu.

30-minute In-Person or Zoom Appointment

30 minute appointments are the better option if you have more involved questions that you expect to take 30 minutes or less, such as:

• Four year plans
• BHS/BPH application questions
• Multiple semester course plan
• A variety of advising concerns, aka “I have more than two things to talk about”
• University petition discussions/medical withdrawal
• Forms such as: ROTC plans or Financial aid petitions

Students may meet with either of the advisors, students are not assigned to a specific advisor within our college. In order to schedule an appointment, please start the PHHP advising survey below (via Qualtrics). Appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance, and can be booked as far out as 3 weeks.
